Cannabis - The Healing Plant
The term „Entourage-Effect“ comes from cannabis research and describes a therapeutic interaction between cannabinoids and terpenoids. It defines that a combination of plant substances has a higher biological activity than the isolated pure substance itself.
Cannabinoids are a collective term for all substances which act via the cannabinoid receptors. More than 100 such cannabinoids have been detected and extracted in the cannabis plant at present. It is interesting to note that cannabinoids are not only found in the cannabis plant, but also in some fungi and bacteria. The most well-known of the 100 different cannabinoids are THC, CBD, CBC and CBG.
Terpenes and Terpenoids
Terpenes are a group of chemical compounds and occur in natural organisms. Essential oils, for example, are rich in terpenes. They have been attributed an antimicrobial property, which is very interesting for medical applications, especially in view of preventing infections or the growth of microorganisms. Terpenes are very soluble in fats, but rather difficult to dissolve in water. Therefore, they are mainly present in essential oils. The terpenes can be vaporized with a vaporizer by exactly adjusting the vaporization temperature.
In the cannabis plant, the flavonoids are responsible for the smell, colour as well as the taste and serve the plants mainly as protection against UV radiation. The flavonoids are mainly absorbed through food, i.e. through fruit and vegetables. So far, the researchers know about 8,000 flavonoids, but not all the flavonoids have been researched in detail.
